Hello Friends, Family and Neighbors of Ty and Telisa Swensen. We are glad you are here! We hope that you will find this blog as a source of information about the upcoming Swensen Family Fundraiser to be held Friday, February 26th in Shelley, Idaho.
The purpose behind this event is to raise funds for the Swensen family due to recent events that have taken place and the effect it has had on their family.
Ty Swensen was born and raised in St. Anthony, Idaho. He attended college at ISU graduating with a degree in pharmacy. He has lived in Idaho his entire life with family still living in St. Anthony and surrounding areas.
Ty is married to Telisa Swensen and together they are the parents of four beautiful children. Tanner, Trevin, Tierra and Trey.
They lost their son Tanner in June of 2008. He was 14 at the time of his death.
Soon after Tanners death, it became apparent that the years of suffering Ty had experienced from Charcot-Marie-Tooth syndrome had become much worse than he had thought. This is an inherited disorder of the nerves that is incurable.
On October 12th, Ty was admitted to the hospital for what he thought was a serious case of the flu. After many tests, it was certain that his condition was due to an infection from a previous leg injury. Due to his ongoing Charcoat-Marie-Tooth syndrome, the injury was not healing properly causing him to become very ill.
Ty spent three weeks in the ICU at EIRMC fighting for his life as he faced sepsis and then liver and kidnefailure. As a result, Ty spent the next several weeks in the hospital. After several procedures and surgery it was determined that his left leg, below the knee, would need to be amputated in order to prevent the infection from continuing to spread and threaten his life.
After the left leg had been amputated, it was also determined that the right leg would also need to be amputated. After a total of two months in the hospital, Ty was released and able to spend the holidays with his family at home.
The Swensen family now face the challenge of Ty rebuilding his life and learning to navigate his prosthetic legs. As you can imagine, the hospital bills are enormous and changes will need to be made to their home and vehicles in order for him to resume a normal life style.
The purpose behind this fundraiser is to help the Swensen family meet the financial burden that they now face.
Words can not express the love and support that their friends and family have towards them. This fundraiser is our way of showing the love and support by reaching out to the wonderful community of Shelley, Idaho Falls and surrounding areas and pleading for support.
Please visit this blog often for more details about the event and how you can support the Swensen family!
